Got the part of Warren Coolidge on _"The White Shadow" (1978)_ (qv) after 'Ken Howard (I)' (qv) saw him in the movie _Fire Sale (1977)_ (qv) on television. Howard, who is 6'6", wanted at least one cast member taller than himself for one the "players." When he saw Stewart in the movie, he immediately phoned 'Bruce Paltrow' (qv) and told him to get Stewart for the show.
He was awarded the 1995 Joseph Jefferson Award Citation for Actor in a Principal Role in a Play for "Slow Dance on the Killing Ground" at the Touchstone Theatre in Chicago, Illinois.
