BIOGRAPHY: Bruce Willis grew up mainly in Penns Grove, New Jersey, and graduated from high school there before going to New York to become an actor. He waited tables and tended bar for a living until he began to get roles in plays. While tending bar one night he was seen by a casting director who liked his personality and needed a bartender for a small movie role.
TRIVIA:
- Has the distinction of playing two psychologists who have suffered serious work- related emotional trauma: "Dr. Bill Capa" in _Color of Night (1994)_ (qv) and "Dr. Malcolm Crowe" in _The Sixth Sense (1999)_ (qv). Ironically, _Color of Night (1994)_ (qv) was a box-office bomb and was widely ridiculed by critics (this movie did much better business in home video market, though), while _The Sixth Sense (1999)_ (qv) became a box-office smash and received several Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.
- He visited 'Michael Jackson (I)' (qv) on the set of filming the 'Smooth Criminal' segment for _Moonwalker (1988)_ (qv). Also visiting the set was 'Gregory Peck' and 'Robert De Niro' (qv).
- (February 2002) Was named Man of the Year by Harvard University's Hasty Pudding Theatricals.
- His ineptness as a waiter forced him to become a bartender.
- Recommended 'Michael Clarke Duncan' (qv) to play the part of John Coffey in _The Green Mile (1999)_ (qv).
- Was originally cast as Terry Benedict in _Ocean's Eleven (2001)_ (qv) but dropped out.
- Was born on a military base in Germany.
- The scar on his right shoulder is from surgery due to complications from a broken arm when he was 17.
