BIOGRAPHY:

A career that has spanned over 70 films, plays and television appearances almost too numerous to count, has earned Assumpta Serna more than twenty best actress awards around the world (Spain, France, Italy, USA, Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Uruguay). She has acted in Theatre and movies in six different languages in over 20 countries. She is a member of the European Film Academy, the American Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences and the Spanish Academy of Cinema. She is the co-founder of Foundation first team, the international film organization in Spain that provides film training techniques to actors, directors, producers and screenwriters around the world.

A few of her many films are: Almodovar's Matador, the 1993 Spanish Oscar entry The Fencing Master, her American award-winning performance in Maria Luisa Bemberg's film, I, the Worst of All, Sam Fuller's Day of Reckoning (1994) (TV), Nostradamus (1994). In 2008 she played an Argentinian mother in Uncertainty, her last film shot in NY and directed by Scott Mc Gehee and David Siegel, Un S beau voyage in France directed by Khaled Gorbal and Trash in Barcelona by Carles Torras.

In USA, she has worked on her most worldwide movies such as Wild Orchid opposite Mickey Rourke, and The Crat for Columbia-Tri Star and in the worldwide distributed television series Falcon Crest. She had done more than 15 European co productions, such as I Vicerè (Italy), Nostradamus (UK) with Rutger Hauer y F. Murray Abraham and Le circle Des passions (France) with Max Von Sydow.

In 1997 Serna took up writing. Her first book, Screenacting, was followed by Monologues in V.O and her third book is in the works. She was jury member in more than fifteen cities in more than 10 countries such as Chicago, Venice, San Sebastián, Mar DE Plata, Biarritz, Brasil, Montreal, Karlovy Vary, Colombia, Brussels.


TRIVIA:
  • Replaced Diana Peñalver in the role of Teresa Moreno in the Sharpe series of films when the injury to Paul McGann caused Sharpe's Rifles to be reshot with Sean Bean in the leading role. She went on to star in the first four of the Sharpe films.
  • Member of the jury at the Venice Film Festival in 2003.
  • Has had long time relationship with actor 'Patrick Bauchau' (qv).
