• His first wife, Diane Arbus (nee Nemerov), was a well-known photographer. They separated in 1959 and divorced a few years later. She committed suicide on July 26, 1971. She is the subject of the film _Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus (2006)_ (qv).
• Known for playing psychiatrist Doctor Sidney Freedman on _"M*A*S*H" (1972)_ (qv) as a guest star for the entire series.
• Former brother-in-law of poet laureate 'Howard Nemerov' (qv).
• He had an advertising photography business with his first wife, Diane Arbus, in the 1950s. Based in New York City, they shot both local and national ad campaigns.
• Father of photographer Amy Arbus and writer/art director Doon Arbus.
