Channel 4 is a UK public-service television broadcaster which began working on November 2, 1982. Wales has its' own version of the channel called S4C. Although commercially self-funded, it is ultimately publicly owned; originally a subsidiary of the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA), it is now owned and operated by the Channel Four Television Corporation, a public body established in 1990, coming into operation in 1993. The first show to air on the network was the daily game show Countdown which is still being made to the current day. The network shows entertainment and factual series as well as showing many of the top shows from America. It launched the satellite and cable channels E4 in January 2001 and More 4 in October 2005. FilmFour was launched in November, 1998
