Villain

Movie (1971)

It tells the story of ruthless East End gangster Vic Dakin and his plans for an ambitious raid on the wages van of a plastic factory. This is a departure from Dakin's usual modus operandi, and the job is further complicated by his having to work with fellow gangster Frank Fletcher's firm. As Dakin plots, Wolfe wheels and deals and MP Draycott gets caught in a web of his own iniquity.

  • The archway under the railway viaduct where Vic Dakin shot Edgar Lowis was the exact same one where some of the song and dance scenes took place in Melody (1971).
  • A sex scene between Richard Burton and Ian McShane was cut from the original theatrical release.
  • In the original 1968 novel "The Burden Of Proof" by James Barlow (the inspiration for this film), a prosecuting barrister asks one of the female witnesses in court if she "likes the actor Richard Burton". Burton went on to play the lead role of Vic Dakin in the movie.
  • Many critics in 1971 felt that Richard Burton was the wrong actor to play Cockney gangster Vic Dakin, and that his performance was over the top.
