Movie (1963)


The story of the film centres around urban housewife Beverly Boyer (Doris Day) and her husband, a successful gynaecologist and devoted family man, Gerald (James Garner). Beverly is offered the opportunity to star for a television commercial advertising soap. After a shaky start, she gets a contract for $80,000 per year to appear on the weekly TV commercials.

  • The ad agency's viewing room has both color and black-and-white TVs side by side. This was common at ad agencies in the 1960s to confirm that color commercials would also be acceptable on black-and-white sets.
  • Movie Goof (factual errors): The drama series is seen in color on several Zenith 23" black-and-white TV sets in various locations, including Dr. Boyer's den (before he buys a color set). His black-and-white TV has a label reading "COLOR TV" in red letters, added for the film.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): Beverly pulls the same part of the gown off of Gerald's head twice after Gerald trips over the camera equipment (when the crew is filming a commercial in the couple's bedroom).
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): When the crane arrives to pull Gerald Boyer's car out of the pool, the car is facing the street and not facing the garage as it was when it went into the pool.
