The Runaways

The Runaways Goofs/Mistakes

  • Movie Goof (continuity error): The band check into standard budget motel in which all room entrances are from exterior walkways facing pool, yet later girls are seen walking down enclosed walkways to get to rooms.
  • Movie Goof (factual errors): During a post-Runaways stint working a shift in a cake decorating store, Cherie Currie hears Joan Jett being interviewed on radio's Rodney On The ROQ - and places a live call to Joan that is broadcast over the radio - even though show aired live late Sunday nights, when store where she was employed would never be open.
  • Movie Goof (factual errors): When Cherie calls her sister Marie from a telephone both, she inserts coins before she has even lifted receiver, then dials; call would never go through unless she had lifted receiver first.
  • Movie Goof (errors in geography): An early scene takes place outside Rodney Bingenheimer's English Disco on Sunset Strip-one of West Hollywood's busiest multi-lane thoroughfares. Yet in movie it is depicted as two lane street with virtually no traffic.
  • Movie Goof (anachronisms): Cherie somehow makes long-distance call from courtesy phone on wall near motel pool; in reality, budget motels of that era never had free public phones that would allow customers or anyone who wandered onto property to place phone calls, even if they were collect.
  • Movie Goof (crew or equipment visible): One of the crew's hands can be seen holding a black card in the reflection of the trailer's window when Cherie is standing outside waiting while Kim Fowley and Joan Jett are coming up with the "Cherry Bomb" lyrics.
  • Movie Goof (anachronisms): Early in the movie, we see a police car with the now-common search light that is attached near the driver-side mirror. These were not on police vehicles back in 1974-75.
  • Movie Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Kristen Stewart, as Joan Jett, wears leather pants throughout the movie. On the commentary track featuring the real Joan Jett, Joan says she never wore leather pants but only wore jeans throughout her career.
  • Movie Goof (anachronisms): The Dodge Charger shown at the beginning of the movie has a license plate beginning with the number 3 (which wasn't issued until several years later).
  • Movie Goof (incorrectly regarded as a mistake): When Rodney Bingenheimer interviews Joan Jett on his KROQ radio show in early Eighties, he claims that he used to play a lot of Runways music at his old Sunset Strip club, Rodney's English disco - although his club closed half a year before band even got together, let alone had landed a recording contract. However, it is possible that the character was mistaken or lying to Joan.
  • Movie Goof (errors in geography): During scenes set in Japan, they show an American limo driving on the right side of the road. In Japan, they drive on the left side of the road.
  • Movie Goof (anachronisms): When Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning) is attempting to buy a bottle of vodka at the supermarket, alcohol can be seen on display that was not in production yet e.g. green and orange boxes of Patron.
