Movie Goof (revealing mistake): During the chase, right up until Joseph Frady crashes his stolen police car, the driver of his car is wearing a wide-brimmed sheriff's hat. He crashes with the hat, but gets out of the car hat-less.
The opening sequence was designed to mirror that of Robert F. Kennedy's 1968 assassination.
The film is adapted from a 1970 novel by Loren Singer with the same title, about a reporter's dangerous investigation into an obscure organization, the Parallax Corporation, whose primary enterprise is political assassination.
The Parallax View is one of a trilogy of thrillers directed by Alan J. Pakula, along with _Klute(1971)_ and All the President's Men. This was the only one not released by Warner Bros. Pictures.
