Rose Morgan (Barbara Streisand), who still lives with her mother (Lauren Bacall), is a professor of Romantic Literature who desperately longs for passion in her life. Gregory Larkin (Jeff Bridges), a mathematics professor, has been burned by passionate relationships and longs for a sexless union based on friendship and respect.

Movie Goof (boom mic visible): When Greg arrives at "new" Rose's house.
Movie Goof (continuity error): When Candice leaves Gregory, she slings her bag over her shoulder and her right hand is alternately on/off the strap in subsequent shots.
Movie Goof (continuity error): On Rose and Gregory's wedding night, Rose takes off her robe and lays it on Gregory's bed. When Gregory comes back in, he picks up the robe and lays it over with Rose's things. Then, when Rose gets up to put in a movie, the robe is lying on her bed.
During production, most of the crew was replaced. That's why the film has two credited directors of photography.
