The Mating Habits of the Earthbound Human

David Hyde Pierce, playing an alien (credited as infinity-cubed in the opening credits), narrates a courtship in a late-20th century American city as an extraterrestrial nature documentary. The relationship "footage" is played straight, while the voice-over (with its most often wildly inaccurate theories) and elaborate visual metaphors add comedy.

Movie Trivia/Goofs

  • Movie Goof (continuity error): When the male is getting to meet the female for the first time, the male wears the sweater then a leather jacket (confirmed by the narrator). Then in the next shot where the male is looking into the mirror there is only the sweater and no leather jacket.
  • Movie Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): After Billy tried to defend Jennie from Mike, she asks if they should take the relationship to the next level. The next level is that they are tested for AIDS, so that they don't have to use a condom. This makes little sense or is an error in her judgment as she has already performed unprotected fellatio upon Billy.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): In the park, Jenny is wearing high heeled shoes. in the next shot, as they are racing to the water fountain, she is running in blue and white canvas "deck shoes".
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): When we first see the newborn, there is no umbilical cord. A few shots later, the doctors cut the umbilical cord.
