Movie Trivia/Goofs

  • The original twist ending involved Silvia Broome having made up the idea of the assassination in order to blackmail a political official from causing genocide in Africa. Although director Sydney Pollack signed on for that draft it was one of the first things he had changed. This in turn changed a lot of the structure of the script so Scott Frank and Steven Zaillian were brought on to doctor it up.
  • Despite the high security at the U.N. and terror alerts, crew members were allowed to bring in knives for their work.
  • Movie Goof (revealing mistake): Action takes place during the UN General Assembly meeting. This meeting is always in September, but film shows cherry blossom trees in full bloom which occurs only in the spring.
  • Movie Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): The rhythm of the interpreters' speech makes it clear that they're just reading English slowly, rather than making the natural pauses in order to account for the syntax of other languages.
