A supernatural tale set on death row in a Southern prison, where gentle giant John Coffey possesses the mysterious power to heal people's ailments. John Travolta was offered the role of Paul Edgecomb but turned it down.
Originally set in 1932, the timeframe was bumped to 1935 so the movie Top Hat could be featured.
Movie Goof (continuity error): When Paul and Brutal have Percy in the electric chair, the hair across Percy's forehead changes several times between shots. Also, Paul and Brutal's hand holds on Percy change.
Movie Goof (audio/visual unsynchronized): When Paul Edgecomb approaches John Coffey's cell after getting kicked in the groin, John Coffey asks him to come closer to the bars. When Eduard Delacroix warns Paul that he's not supposed to do that, Paul replies, "Mind your business, Del." But if you watch Tom Hanks' lips, he actually says "Mind your own business, Del."
