  • 20th Century Fox invited a group of scientists to preview the film, to test their reactions to the science used in the film. None of the scientists were impressed with what they saw, although most conceded that the movie was enjoyable nonsense.
  • On the bookshelf behind Jack's bed are the novels "Sacred" and "Gone, Baby, Gone" by Dennis Lehane (II), who also wrote Mystic River which featured Emmy Rossum.
  • Movie Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): In the shot where Jack Hall is explaining why the air coming out of the cyclone is so cold, the computer model of the low pressure system is spinning clockwise, not counter clockwise, as it should be in the northern hemisphere. Also in the starlit picture when the weatherman says that the low pressure systems resembles a "tropical hurricane" is also spinning clockwise.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): The position of the partially sunken ships near the Statue of Liberty changes between shots.
