Taken Goofs/Mistakes

  • Movie Goof (continuity error): When Amanda was taking a photo, the camera phone was held in the landscape position, but when Peter was taking the photo for them, he held it in the portrait position. Later, when Bryan was reviewing the photos, all the photos were in the landscape position, including the one supposedly taken by Peter.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): When Peter escapes out of the taxi and proceeds up the highway, you can see a clear path - no cars. However, when Bryan proceeds after him in the taxi, you can see cars behind Peter. Where did those car's come from?
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): When Bryan is driving Kim to the airport, he is seen driving a Nissan Sentra on the road. However, the interior shots of the car are of a BMW 7-Series. It is evident by BMW's distinctly unique seat and headrest design.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): Whenever Kim is giving Bryan the description of the man that's taking her, she yells that he has a beard. However, whenever Bryan is listening to the tape on the plane we hear that he has a mustache. Later when he arrives at the apartment and goes over what happened, we hear that he has a beard again.
  • Movie Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Bryan gives his daughter an international cell phone before her trip - but doesn't give her a charger to keep it working.
  • Movie Goof (incorrectly regarded as a mistake): When Bryan is listening to the mobile phone and the call ends, the audio sounds like a home phone cutting off instead of a mobile. However, it is actually the sound of the phone being smashed, which is confirmed later when the phone is discovered smashed.
  • Movie Goof (incorrectly regarded as a mistake): Bryan is told that the kidnappers do business in Yugoslavia. While there is no such country anymore, the Yugoslavian Republic having separated into numerous smaller countries in the early 1990s, "Yugoslavia" is still the common name for the complicated, tumultuous region.
  • Movie Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Bryan poses as a corrupt French official and tells some Albanian crooks that they are being monitored by a satellite 200 miles overhead. As an experienced former spy, Bryan should have known to say "kilometers", not "miles". As Europeans, the crooks should have immediately recognized that no Frenchman would use "miles" to describe distance, let alone speak with an American/slight Irish accent.
  • Movie Goof (incorrectly regarded as a mistake): When Bryan attacked the construction site, no one knew what he looks like, yet they knew who to shoot when they had come out. But it could just be that they all know each other by sight and Bryan, being several inches taller and a lot fairer in skin and hair colour, stands out as someone who shouldn't be there.
  • Movie Goof (factual errors): Kim's map of Europe places U2 in Spain on June 16 and in Paris on May 29. In actuality the band was in Manchester and Boston, respectively.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): In the beginning of the movie, when Bryan is sitting down in the chair in his and wakes up from his dream in his house/apartment, there are two boxes of Chinese food placed on the table in front of him, then in a later shot the Chinese food is no longer visible.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): When Bryan is interrogating Marko he removes his tie and loosens his collar. When he returns to the light switch his tie has returned, only for it to be missing again on his next trip to the light switch.
  • Movie Goof (audio/visual unsynchronized): When the girls are in the apartment in France, they turn the music up loud so they do not hear Kim's mobile phone ringing. When the camera pans over to her handbag, the phone is ringing but "Silent" mode is selected.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): Bryan's head throughout the movie has no white hair, but at the corrupt French police officer's apartment his hair appears to have white hair roots on forehead sides.
  • Movie Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Dialogue errors: Bryan says, "What I do have are a very particular set of skills..." He really means, "What I do have is a very particular set of skills..." Also, when talking to Kim on the phone, we hear her say, "...are in Spain" to which Bryan replies "To Spain." The more natural response would have been to repeat and respond, "In Spain," being surprised by that new information.
  • Movie Goof (revealing mistake): When Bryan (Liam Neeson) goes to the girls' hotel room in Paris for the first time, he edges along a ledge on the outside of the building. There is a top-down shot that clearly shows a stunt double to be performing this act.
  • Movie Goof (revealing mistake): When Peter jumps off the elevated road to escape Bryan, the semi-truck trailer that Peter lands on clearly has a padded roof.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): When Bryan listens to the recording of his daughter on the airplane, the recording starts when his daughter says "They've got her", which would have been when his daughter was in the bathroom. Bryan originally started the recording after his daughter was under the bed in the bedroom so the recording would not have that part in it. It would have also recorded Bryan's voice which was not on the recording.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): After Bryan Mills saves the girl from the construction area brothel, he is driving away in a white SUV. The back window is shot out by the pursuing bad guys. Immediately following that, the back window is clearly seen intact several times during the car chase.
  • Movie Goof (errors in geography): Bryan's only lead on Staint-Clair is the address 26 St Louis en l'Ile, Paris, obtained when Jean-Claude searches for him in the database. However, the mansion where the party is hosted is not the same building located at that address, as can be confirmed by a Google Maps Street-level search.
  • Movie Goof (incorrectly regarded as a mistake): Bryan never reloads his gun in the movie. However, he often takes the guns of people he has just killed, so reloading is not necessary.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): When Brian is taking a picture of Kim and Amanda at the airport, we see Amanda pose smiling, teeth showing. Later, when Brian is looking at the copy of the picture, Amanda's mouth is closed, and her lips are pursed.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): When Bryan, Kim and Lenore are in the restaurant the amount of cream and position of the cherries on the milkshake changes between shots.
  • Movie Goof (errors in geography): When Bryan arrives at the scene of the kidnap and accepts the open door from the lady leaving the apartment building, he has a large paper bag of groceries. Paper bags of this style are not available in France.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): In the scene where Kim is in the café talking about the trip, the hair on the right side of her head covers and then uncovers her ears multiple times between shots.
  • Movie Goof (anachronisms): Kim's map of Europe shows Czechoslovakia as a country, although the country was divided into Czech Republic and Slovakia in 1993.
  • Movie Goof (errors in geography): In the scene at the building site, some men are seen in hard-hats in a style that is not available nor permitted in France.
  • Movie Goof (incorrectly regarded as a mistake): SPOILER: When Bryan goes in search of Patrice Saint-Clair and at the entrance when the security checks Bryan's identity card, it's clearly seen that Bryan's photo is stuck on the card. This was later discovered by security as a trick when Bryan is briefly captured.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): SPOILER: Towards the end of the movie on the boat when Bryan is fighting the man with the knife, the man smashes a lamp on the wall and in the next frame it is back and untouched.
  • Movie Goof (revealing mistake): SPOILER: When Bryan is chasing Peter up the ramp, he turns into heavy traffic with squealing tires and all. After Peter dies, Brian walks on the highway near the cars and it has basically turned into a parking lot with unmanned autos, no noise and no brake lights as you would have in a traffic stoppage.
  • Movie Goof (revealing mistake): SPOILER: At the end of the movie when Bryan is fighting the men on the boat, he ducks under a sofa and shoots one of the men in the foot. That man then falls down, in which Bryan shoots him again, this time in the arm. However, the bullet marks appear on his chest even though it is clear that he is shot in the arm at an angle.
  • Movie Goof (incorrectly regarded as a mistake): SPOILER: When Bryan finally finds his daughter being auctioned off she is very clearly heavily dosed with drugs because her facial features are relaxed and her orientation is off. However, when she is saved minutes later, or maybe a half-hour tops in the film's time, she is completely aware of what is going on and the drugs have come out of her system, unlike the girl Bryan rescued before. However, Saint Clair did not use the same drugs that Marko used in sedating his girls, as his clientèle was of a higher caliber, and would not want the girls sweaty and unresponsive like the girls in the trailer. So it's quite plausible that Kim could have recovered to the point of recognizing her father by the time she was rescued.
  • Movie Goof (incorrectly regarded as a mistake): SPOILER: Early in the movie, Sheerah's vocal coach, Gio, is presumably the black man rehearsing with her before she goes onstage at a concert. At the end of movie, given the implied context of the visit to see Sheerah, the person we see at her piano is not the same man. However, the man at the piano may just be an accompanist and not the vocal coach. Since we cannot see the whole house from the front door, Gio could easily be somewhere off camera.
  • Movie Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): SPOILER: On the boat toward the end of the movie the sheik's main guard makes a mistake in Arabic when telling his guys "there is a man on the boat" - the word "boat" in Arabic is "Safina", but he says "Fasina".
  • Movie Goof (revealing mistake): SPOILER: A just-slain security man lying on the floor on the boat has blood stains on his shirt that appear to have been dried for a while.
