Movie Trivia/Goofs

  • Movie Goof (errors in geography): The American scenes are filmed in and around Dunedin in New Zealand where traffic drives on the left-hand side of the road and the vehicles are all right-hand drives. In the scene after Ted Hughes has admitted his first infidelity, Sylvia Plath walks out into the rain and gets into the car which is clearly American and has a left-hand drive. But the other vehicles in front, seen in silhouette, while all seeming American, are all right hand drives.
  • Movie Goof (factual errors): Orchestrator Nick Ingman is credited in the end credits as Nick Ingham.
  • Sylvia Plath's daughter and literary executor, Frieda Hughes, not only refused to cooperate with the producers or allow them access to her mother's poetry, but also publicly denounced the project in a published poem of her own.
  • During some of the filming, Gwyneth Paltrow stayed in Q staircase of Tree Court, Gonville & Caius College as this was minutes away from the mocked-up old street at the back of Caius.
