Movie Trivia/Goofs

  • Movie Goof (anachronisms): Even without the use of a mechanical thresher, Inge and Olav would have had horse-drawn machinery to harvest and thresh corn in the 1920s. Harvesting corn by hand scythe and threshing it by hand are outdated techniques by the year 1880, much less 1920.
  • Dan Futterman was originally cast as Olaf, but by the time the movie was ready to shoot, Futterman was committed to Capote so he recommended Tim Guinee for the role.
  • Movie Goof (anachronisms): During the "pie" scene when the camera zooms on Frandsen's wife's face you can clearly see the pierced ear holes in her ears. Not likely to have been there during the period of the movie.
  • Elizabeth Reasers' Norwegian pronunciation was so bad that after Dagbladet (one of Norway's biggest news-papers) stumbled upon this film, they posted a clip from it with the title "What is she trying to say?"
