Rick Yune was originally cast as Gen, but he was replaced by Robin Shou, who played Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.
Movie Goof (continuity error): When Bison asks Vega to take care of Chun Li, and Vega looks at the photo of her, his hand is white. The Vega double is Scandinavian and Taboo is Hispanic.
M. Bison's alternate name for Shadaloo was the Shadow Empire, like in the video games.
In the video games, Vega is Spanish. In this film, Vega is Native American because Taboo is Mexican and Native American. In the video games, Vega wears a mask to protect his beauty; in this film, he wears it to hide his face.
