• Movie Goof (revealing mistake): After David sees the sign someone has put up in his room, he throws the sign into a sea of onlookers in the hallway, then storms into his room, slams the door, and emerges a few seconds later with a note he has written - a note of such length that there is no way he could have written it in the few seconds that he spends in the room, even in the unlikely event that he had paper and pencil immediately handy.
• The Scranton Bus Depot scene was filmed outside Russell's Package Store in Leominster, MA. The building was used because it was a former train station and the exterior looked like an old bus station. The owners were compensated for its use with a complete interior remodel. To this day the Scranton PA Bus Depot decals remain in the front windows of the liquor store.
• At the end of the movie Matt Damon's character says "I'm still gonna get into Harvard, and you'll still be a Jew." Matt Damon actually did go to Harvard.
• Movie Goof (anachronisms): In the dance in the school gym, one of the wall decorations is a poster for Gone with the Wind - showing the now-famous poster art designed for the 1960s re-release of that film.
