  • Movie Goof (errors in geography): The Arabic language spoken by the officers in Col. Hodges' inquiry is the local Levant dialect spoken in Israel and Jordan, and not the Yemenite dialect.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): When the Marines board the helicopters on the aircraft carrier, they are initially CH-46 Sea Knights, a twin rotor Marine helicopter with three landing gear. However, all the subsequent shots show the much larger CH-47 Chinook with four landing gear.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): During attack on embassy plastic bottle was used for petrol bomb but smashed like glass on the wall.
  • SPOILER: The scene of Sokal viewing and destroying the tape after he sees it proves gunfire was coming from the crowd, was imposed by test audiences according to William Friedkin. The film was supposed to leave ambiguous whether or not Childers did the right thing, depicting what happened through subjective viewpoints and never revealing the objective truth of what occurred.
