• Movie Goof (revealing mistake): In the scene on a grassy hill, Joan is picking wild flowers while Jack skims a book as they talk. Jack then excitedly decides they should go back into town, and attempts to toss his backpack into the cargo bed of Juan's truck. But it overshoots slightly and tumbles onto the ground.
• Movie Goof (continuity error): The boy who knocks out Joan's sister with the bolas is swinging them in the opposite direction when he first appears.
• Alan Silvestri was hired to do a temporary score for the film, but director Robert Zemeckis liked his work so much that he kept him on as composer.
• Movie Goof (continuity error): When Jack looks at the map and reads "Devil's Fork" for the first time, the map is entirely unfolded (the compass rose is visible in the upper right corner). In the next shot, the entire right side of the map (including the compass rose) is folded back at the crease.
