• Movie Goof (continuity error): During the first night at the International Inn, Dep. Wiegle shows Lt Dangle her sunburn, patterned around a bathing suit and a bra. The next day she appears on the beach with Dep. Johnson wearing the bathing suit/bra combination, but without the burn. It would appear these two scenes were originally shot to appear in reverse order.
• SPOILER: The scene where the team blows up a whale is based upon an actual incident that occurred in Florence, Oregon; November 12, 1970. A beached whale was removed by explosions. Just as in the movie, there was property damage from raining blubber. Video footage of this incident can be found around internet. was reported.
• Movie Goof (revealing mistake): When they are trying to push the whale off the beach and Junior falls into the blow hole you can see the foam and rubber that make up the whale.
• Movie Goof (continuity error): Dep. Wiegle's braids disappear and reappear in successive scenes, it's doubtful she would have time to get them redone based on the timing of the scenes.
