• Nick Nolte was originally cast as Francis Tierney, Sr. But an old knee injury flared up and Nolte found himself unable to perform when he came to the set.
• Movie Goof (continuity error): The video in the interrogation by IAB was shot using a widescreen video camera, but when it's watched on TV, it's 4:3.
• SPOILERS: Jimmy's (Colin Farrell) death scene was originally supposed to have Ray (Edward Norton) let him go into the crowd to be accosted by the angry mob and then the audience would assume that he died. 'Gavin OConnor knew he needed a more powerful ending and that is when he decided to have Jimmy be beaten to death in front of Ray to add a sort of sympathy for the character Jimmy.
• Movie Goof (revealing mistake): During a few scenes towards the end, Ray flashes a badge and states "Detective..." The badge he is holding is in fact a NYPD Captain's badge (shield) and not a Detective badge (shield).
