The inhabitants of Planet 51 live in fear of alien invasion. Their paranoia is realized when an astronaut arrives from Earth. Befriended by a young resident, he has to avoid capture in order to recover his spaceship and try to return home.

Movie Trivia/Goofs

Movie Goof (continuity error): As astronaut Chuck Baker gets tangled up in a planet mobile in the planetarium, his air hose becomes dislodged and his oxygen becomes depleted. Upon realizing the planet has breathable air, he removes his helmet, and the air hose is now reconnected to his suit. It is then again disconnected in the following shot.
Lem, the name of the main alien character voiced by Justin Long, is also the abbreviation for Lunar Excursion Module. NASA's LEM was used as part of the Apollo program to land astronauts on the moon.
Movie Goof (continuity error): Skiffs braces disappear and reappear in different scenes.
One of the hippies is holding a sign which reads "Make like, not war".
