Each year the population of sleepy Lake Victoria, Arizona explodes from 5,000 to 50,000 residents for the annual Spring Break celebration. But then, an earthquake opens an underwater chasm, releasing an enormous swarm of ancient Piranha that have been dormant for thousands of years, now with a taste for human flesh. This year, there's something more to worry about than the usual hangovers and complaints ...

Movie Trivia/Goofs

Alexandre Aja planned to have Joe Dante (director of the original Piranha) and James Cameron (director of Piranha Part Two: The Spawning) play boat captains who give safety lessons to the teens. Dante wanted to do it but Cameron was too busy.
Movie Goof (continuity error): Some of the teenagers have blood on their bodies before they are attacked.
Movie Goof (revealing mistake): When Danni is attempting to go crawl along the rope towards the safe boat, you can see that with each shot the rope "lowers". This would make sense, because there is more people on the rope but not enough to lower it to the extent where her hair was touching the water.
The film was actually shot on Lake Havasu, Arizona, a popular place for real spring breakers, not on Lake Victoria where the movie takes place. Lake Victoria officials worried that the film would ruin tourism if moviegoers figured out where the film was set and not come there.
