The cartoonish and childish character Pee Wee Herman goes on a big adventure for the first time ever when his beloved shiny new bicycle is stolen by his nemesis Francis Buxton, a fellow man-child and neighborhood rich "kid." And he sets off on an obsessive cross-country journey, determined to recover it. Pee-wee's awkward and childish attempts to be cool and mature.

In real life Paul Reubens was very sick from the flu during the scene where he returns to the bike shop after his bike is stolen and Pee-Wee falls on the bikes. This is mentioned in the commentary.
Movie Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Pee Wee knocks the motorcycles over, one of them has no cap on the gas tank.
CAMEO(Professor Toru Tanaka) Francis's butler.
Movie Goof (continuity error): In the bicycle chase scene where a studio guard pursues Pee-Wee, the guard pulls one of the tassel handles off Pee-wee's bike. In the close-up shot, Pee-Wee presses a button that causes a handle without a tassel to spring out. When they cut back to the wide shot, the tassel is back as well.
