Movie Goof (factual errors): Despite persisting belief, not all Vikings wore helmets and those who did had no horns on them.
The Native Americans the Vikings encounter historically were the Beothuk people of Newfoundland in Canada. There is a large historical site around the Viking settlements in Newfoundland for tourists to visit.
Movie Goof (revealing mistake): During the scene where Karl Urban's character leads the whole troop most of the time you can hear a wind blowing like a storm. Yet most of the time the snow falls as it would during a gentle breeze.
Both metal and rubber helmets were made. The rubber ones were used when actors did stunts. The metal ones would have injured their heads.
