Ocean's Eleven Goofs/Mistakes
- Movie Goof (continuity error): In one of the scenes Pitt has a wine glass of a shrimp cocktail, and in another it changes to a plate with a shrimp cocktail whiskey glass.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): In the scene where Livingston tells Danny that guards will be watching him like hawks with video cameras, you can see Reuben removing the cigar and blowing smoke out of his mouth. But in the next above-shot, you can see the cigar magically appear in his mouth again and he removes it and blows out smoke again.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): In the scene where Linus and Rusty are waiting for Tess to come down the escalator, the food in Rusty's hand changes from a schooner of shrimp cocktail, to a plate, then back to a schooner.
- Movie Goof (errors in geography): During the scene in which Danny explains the security of the Bellagio vault a map is displayed on the screen which shows a portion of the Las Vegas strip. It is incorrect in that it places the MGM Grand casino in the place where the Aladdin (now Planet Hollywood) casino should be. If the MGM Grand were placed in its correct position, it would be partially off the screen.
- Movie Goof (crew or equipment visible): The camera and operator are reflected in the narrow mirror at Reuben Tishkoff's house as the gang discusses the robbery.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): When Linus has just been hauled out of the elevator, one shot shows him take off his white jacket and in the next shot, he takes it off again at the same time as Danny.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): When Rusty walks back into the poker room from the bar, the knot of his tie changes from the bar to the poker room.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): At the beginning of the transportation scene the car salesman has two pens in his jacket pocket, then he only has one in the next scene. He then shakes Frank Catton's hand and they again show him having two pens. After he makes a deal for $16,000 they show him with only one pen. (not visible in widescreen version)
- Movie Goof (continuity error): In the race between the Big truck and the radio controlled little truck, the position of the tires relative to the start line changes between scene cuts.
- Movie Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Linus (Matt Damon), while posing as the gaming agent, pronounces "Nevada" as Nev-AH-da. In reality, anyone living in the state would pronounce it correctly, as Nev-AD-a.
- Movie Goof (factual errors): The $100 dollar bill is currently the largest US note in circulation (and has been since the sixties). One million dollars in $100 bills (10,000 notes) weighs about 22 pounds according to the US Treasury Dept web site. Therefore $160MM dollars would weight about 3,520 pounds. There is no way eight people could carry that much weight in canvas bags in one trip from the vault to the SWAT van.
- Movie Goof (revealing mistake): When Mr. Benedict tells the security guy to cut the power, you can see the power go off on the computer screen a few seconds before the security guy presses the button on the computer.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): As Danny is going up the escalator in Trump Plaza, his jacket is buttoned closed. In the next shot, the jacket is open.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): Danny's right hand is on the table on top of Linus's ticket. Cut to a shot of Danny lifting his right hand to summons the waiter. The next shot shows Danny's right hand on the table minus the ticket and says to Linus "that was the best lift I have seen you done."
- Movie Goof (continuity error): Chain attached to briefcase is longer when in the vault then when it is transferred to Saul. When Yen opens money cart in vault and briefcase slides off, the chain is longer and the briefcase goes a lot further over the side of the cart.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): The shot before Linus pickpockets the stock broker, he is holding the pen with the tip in his mouth. But in the up close shot, he has the pen in his mouth horizontally.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): Walsh escorts Frank out of the building while simultaneously watching the monitors in the security room with Saul.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): When Yen back-flips onto the cabinet in the vault he over-leaps and his body goes over the edge. In the next shot, from behind the cabinet, his body is on the cabinet and his legs are over the edge.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): In the scene before Rusty discovers that Tess is involved, he is speaking with Linus and holding a plate of shrimp. In the next shot, when he's witnessing Tess walk down the stairs, it's become a shrimp cocktail.
- Movie Goof (plot holes): The DVD commentary admits that there was no way in which all the flyers that were carried out of the casino and driven to the airport could have been in the vault.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): When Linus opens the top of the elevator to discover Danny looking down at him, he jumps in surprise. A shot from Danny's view shows him jumping into a corner, meaning the elevator is only as wide as the hole Danny is looking through. But when Danny pulls Linus up through the hole, a shot from inside the elevator shows that it is actually wider.
- Movie Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Terry Benedict asks his employee if there is anything for him (in the high rollers room), he responds that Mr. Zerga in the third position (of the baccarat game) wants to talk to him. Mr. Zerga is actually sitting in the first position originally when speaking to the other player at the table. However, when the camera pans back to look at the table it appears that Mr. Zerga is in the center of the table facing the Dealer and the other player would be in the 5th position now (He was originally sitting in the 3rd position when talking to Mr. Zerga.) In the scene where Danny meets Linus in Chicago, Danny refers to Las Vegas as "America's Playground." In fact, that designation belongs to Atlantic City, which was known by this nickname for many years before Las Vegas became a gambling center. Las Vegas has never marketed itself as "America's Playground."
- Movie Goof (continuity error): The surveillance camera in the vault changes its angle to show the 'Bellagio' sign only in the shot just before "Livingston Dell" switches to the recorded tape.
- Movie Goof (plot holes): When the pinch goes off, it should have rendered the cell phone in Tess's coat pocket unusable.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): When they try to convince Reuben to join the team, the first shot from behind him shows him picking up a fork, but in the next shot his hands are gesturing in front of him.
- Movie Goof (factual errors): EMPs don't work that way, even assuming you could find one smaller than a living room. An EMP scrambles the positive and negatively charged layers of a transistor so they no longer gate an electrical impulse, effectively turning solid state devices into lumps of metal. There is no unscrambling, all electronics would be dead forever. If Las Vegas was blacked out by a "pinch" it would stay blacked out till every piece of apparatus that used transistors was replaced. Planes would fall out of the sky, hospital patients would die, it would be an act of terror dwarfing 9/11. The only electronics still working would be the kind that still use tubes - die-hard stereo fanatics (the kind that still play records) and old-time ham radio operators. Of course there'd be no electricity.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): Turk races Virgil's R/C truck on a cloudy day. But as Turk crushes Virgil's truck, we see sunshine. As Turk leaves Virgil's truck in a crumpled heap, the sky is cloudy again.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): During the scene in the elevator shaft when the power is out, Danny and Linus crack glow sticks to be able to see. In the close up you can see they only cracked them half way. When it cuts to the bottom of the shaft the whole glow sticks are lit up.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): When Turk is racing Virgil's R/C truck, the raceway that they are on is a rounded track. But in shots from the back of the truck race appear, they are racing on a long desert road.
- Movie Goof (revealing mistake): When Yen is doing the real job you can see that his foot hit the laser without setting the alarm.
- Movie Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Danny Ocean says that Nevada Gaming Commission regulations require casinos to have enough cash in their vaults to cover every cent in play on the floor. In fact, no such regulation exists.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): In the scene where Rusty is convincing Sol to become a member of the team at the dog races, an African-American couple can be seen in the background walking across the scene in the same direction twice in two consecutive shots.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): The chips in the pot at the card game change continually throughout the scene.
- Movie Goof (crew or equipment visible): When Linus gets out of the white van to go join the rest of the crew stealing the Pinch, the camera takes a shot including Linus walking towards the door and the rear right side of the van. In the reflection off the side of the van, 4 crew members are visible sitting down.
- Movie Goof (audio/visual unsynchronized): When Virgil and Turk bump into each other in the casino and start "arguing", their mouths don't move. (Visible only in full screen version.)
- Movie Goof (audio/visual unsynchronized): When they place Danny in the private room with Bruiser, they are chit-chatting at a normal volume, which leads us to believe that it is a soundproof room. However, later on when Bruiser is faking beating Danny up, they show the two guards on the outside hearing Bruiser hit is fist and make moaning sounds. If they could hear that, they would have been able to hear the whole earlier conversation.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): In the scene when the casino vault's doors were blown, Danny and Linus had their hair in a mess, but in the next shot their are perfectly combed.
- Movie Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): The explanation of the meaning of "Barney" as "trouble" (from "Barney Rubble") is false because this cockney expression for "row" pre-dates The Flintstones.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): SPOILER: When Danny leaves prison after his probation violation and meets Rusty, he is wearing the tuxedo he was arrested in and has an untied bow tie. The location of the untied bow tie changes several times.
- Movie Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): SPOILER: Danny supposed to get a really bad beating. But when Benedict goes to see him after he's been robbed, Danny is hardly out of breath, there's not a mark on him and only his shirt is no longer tucked in, yet Benedict and the two guards don't find this at all suspicious.
- Movie Goof (factual errors): SPOILER: When Danny gets arrested after the heist, we see that he was sent to New Jersey Department of Corrections. However, for a "3 to 6 month" stay, he would have been held in a county/regional jail, rather than a prison.
- Movie Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): SPOILER: During Benedict's flashback, there is a close-up of Danny Ocean dropping a cellphone into Tess' coat pocket during an embrace. However, during the actual event Ocean's hand never drops, holding her right arm during the entire embrace.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): SPOILER: At the end, when the men are saying their goodbyes, we see Reuben Tishkoff leaving twice.
