Movie Trivia/Goofs

  • In the scene where Nicolas Cage is zapping through TV channels, he stops at one showing the movie Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, leaving it on for the FBI to listen to. The plot of "Dr. Strangelove" is about a rogue general attempting to start a nuclear holocaust with a wayward nuke. An obvious reference to the nuke in Next.
  • Movie Goof (factual errors): The sniper twice tries to make a cell phone call. Both times he gets three tones and a recorded message telling him, "Your call cannot be completed as dialed. Check the number and dial again." Between attempts his phone's LCD reports "NO SERVICE" because previously all cell service was shut down. Such recordings can only come from the service; they're not embedded in every handset.
  • Movie Goof (factual errors): The trail head to Havasupai is a dirt area the size of a football field with only a few hitching posts and a helicopter pad. There are not any buildings that look like the one portrayed in the movie.
  • Movie Goof (factual errors): When Callie has a visitor at the indoor firing range, the range master is heard announcing a cease-fire for the entire range and then Callie removes her ear protection. She then proceeds to fire several shots in an act of bravado without ear protection for her guest and her, and in gross violation of the range orders meant to protect other shooters.
