"Some called him savage- and some called him saint... some felt his hate- and one found his love... and three had to die..."

Nevada Smith is the young son of an Indian mother and white father. When his father is killed by three men over gold, Nevada sets out to find them and kill them. The boy is taken in by a gun merchant. The gun merchant shows him how to shoot and to shoot on time and correct.

The name "Nevada Smith" was the original inspiration for the name "Indiana Jones"; the Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark character's name was originally "Indiana Smith". George Lucas named him "Indiana" after his dog, and "Smith" after this movie. But then it was changed to "Indiana Jones".
Movie Goof (continuity error): When Keith is teaching McQueen poker and McQueen pulls the gun on him, Keith's gun vanishes from his right hand between shots and the whiskey bottle changes from his left hand to his right.
Movie Goof (errors in geography): Nevada Smith is working cattle at the railhead in Abilene KS. and during that scene, snow capped mountains are visible in the background. There are no mountains in Kansas.
Movie Goof (continuity error): After Bowdrie's whipping at the prison camp, Max runs into the water to save Bowdrie from drowning. Max turns Bowdrie onto his back so Bowdrie's face is up, out of the water; in the next shot, which is just a second later, Max pulls a face-down Bowdrie out of the water by the feet.
