Movie (2010)

Rizwan Khan, a Muslim from the Borivali section of Mumbai, suffers from Asperger's syndrome, a form of high-functioning autism that complicates socialization. The adult Rizwan marries a Hindu single mother, Mandira, in San Francisco. After 9/11, Rizwan is detained by authorities at LAX who mistake his disability for suspicious behavior.

The New Orleans Inspired, Georgia flood sequence shot in drought-stricken Mumbai used 20 tankers of water daily for the 10-day shoot (the capacity of each tanker truck is approximately 12,000 liters (3,170 gallons), and a family of four requires approximately 360 liters (95.1 gallons) a day. Midway through shooting the flood sequence, however, the drought broke.
Director Karan Johar and scriptwriter Shibani Bathija interviewed Chris and Gisela Slater-Walker, the co-authors of the book that inspired the romantic relationship in the first part of the film.
