Michael Sarrazin was cast as Joe Buck but shortly before filming he pulled out over a wage dispute. Jon Voight was then brought in to replace him.
In 1971, United Artists successfully reissued this film in the USA on a double bill with Women in Love (1969).

The first film originally released with an "X" rating to be shown on prime time network television, albeit heavily edited. The film's rating had been changed to "R" by the time of its TV premiere.
