  • Boris is in his cottage writing poetry. He reads, "I should have been a pair of ragged claws scuttling across the floors of silent seas," and promptly balls up the writing and throws it into the fire. The line is from T.S. Eliot's "The Love Song of 'J.Alfred Prufrock'".
  • Movie Goof (factual errors): The credits state that the music is all by Prokofiev. However, you can distinctly hear Boccherini at one point. Also, the sonata for violin and piano that Sonja plays with her extra-marital lover is Beethoven's Spring sonata, Op. 24. When Boris is at the opera, it is the Magic Flute, which was written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): When Boris crawls into the cannon, he is wearing a green French uniform instead of his own blue uniform. (Just before he mentions being behind enemy lines.)
  • Filmed mainly in Hungary, with some scenes done in Paris. It wouldn't be until 1996 and Everyone Says I Love You that Woody Allen would make another film outside of the New York area.
