• Movie Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Riggs is outside the South African embassy, holding his sign, the word 'apartheid' is spelled wrong. The sign Riggs is holding says, 'End Aparthied Now."
• Movie Goof (crew or equipment visible): On the Alba Varden, just before Riggs gets hit in the leg by a knife, a moving shadow likely to be from movie equipment, can be seen on the large orange container next to Riggs on the right of screen. (It is not the shadow of Riggs.)
• Movie Goof (factual errors): Arjen Rudd claims throughout the movie that he has diplomatic immunity. Rudd works for a consulate - not an embassy - and therefore would have consular immunity; this is similar to, but weaker than, diplomatic immunity (e.g., it generally does not provide immunity from arrest/prosecution).
• SPOILER: An alternate ending to the movie featured a Thanksgiving dinner at the Murtaugh house which is attended by both Riggs and Rika Van Dan Haas. Director Richard Donner later decided that Rika should be killed to further fuel Riggs' hatred of the South African diplomats. With Rika dead, the Thanksgiving dinner scene had to be scrapped.
