Diana Douglas, Michael Douglas's real mother, plays the mother of his character and the wife of Kirk Douglas even though she had been divorced from Kirk for over 50 years. Kirk's second wife Anne Buydens, is not an actress.
When Asher is working on his writing project, he is seen changing the title from "Smack in the Puss" to "Smack in the Kisser" to "Family Jewels"; these were early script titles for this movie.
Rory Culkin's brother Kieran Culkin starred in It Runs in the Family (1994), which completely unrelated to this film of the same title.
Film stars three generations of Douglas family members, Kirk Douglas, Michael Douglas and Cameron Douglas.
