  • Movie Goof (factual errors): The major plot point and title for the film are erroneous since, in reality, it was not "Invictus" but Teddy Roosevelt's "The Man in the Arena" speech that Nelson Mandela gave to François Pienaar for inspiration.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): When Mandela's head bodyguard is passing out the president's schedule to the other bodyguards, he first calls it the "SHEDule" using the British pronunciation, but a few moments later he calls it the "SKEDule" using the American pronunciation.
  • Movie Goof (anachronisms): In the scene where Mandela opens a drawer and removes his estranged wife's bracelet, you can clearly see a few coins with the new South African coat-of-arms on. This coat of arms was only introduced in the year 2000.
  • Movie Goof (anachronisms): When in the security guards' office, we get a few shots of a world map on one of the walls. However, this map, produced by Michelin, was released in October 1999.
