IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOON combines archival material from the original NASA film footage, much of it never before seen, with interviews with the surviving astronauts, including Jim Lovell, Dave Scott, John Young, Gene Cernan, Mike Collins, Buzz Aldrin, Alan Bean, Edgar Mitchell, Charlie Duke and Harrison Schmitt. The astronauts emerge as eloquent, witty, emotional and very human.

Of all the astronauts who appeared in the film, only Buzz Aldrin demanded to be paid.
Movie Goof (miscellaneous): The footage of the lunar module ascent stage returning to the command module is left-right reversed.
Movie Goof (factual errors): Gene Cernan talks about the Apollo 1 crew (Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee) being buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Only Grissom and Chaffee are buried there. White is buried at West Point.
Movie Goof (factual errors): After Apollo 13, it is claimed (overlay text) there were 5 successful lunar landings. There were actually only 4: 14, 15, 16, and 17.
