Movie (1989)

Samantha Hughes, a teenaged Kentucky girl, never knew her father, who died in Vietnam before her birth. Samantha lives with her uncle Emmett, who also served in Vietnam. Emmett hangs around with Tom, Earl, and Pete, three other Vietnam vets who, like Emmett, all have problems of one kind or another that relate to their war experiences. Samantha,becomes obsessed with finding out about her father.

A full scale replica of the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial, one of the first replicas outside D.C., was built in Mayfield, as shooting on the Mall at that time was restricted.
The veterans in the dance sequence are all actual Vietnam veterans, and their real family members accompany them.
The doctor's office seen in the film is actually a dry cleaners which is still operating in Mayfield, Kentucky. After the film, the store was named "Clothes Doctor" as a result of appearing in the movie.
Of the five major characters who are Vietnam veterans, only one, Earl, is played by an actual Vietnam veteran, Jim Beaver.
