Madonna was Prince's first choice for the role of the Kid's angelic muse Aura. She turned it down, telling him that "the screenplay was awful".
Kim Basinger was Prince's 2nd choice to star in the film for the role of Aura, hoping that her casting would lead to a box-office success. However, Basinger and Prince broke up before production began and he scrambled to find a replacement. Sheena Easton, Mayte Garcia, and Sheila E. were considered before Ingrid Chavez was eventually cast.
Numerous Internet sources erroneously list J.D. Williams as a member of Melody Cool Choir. In an interview, Williams stated that he does not appear in this film and was never a member of the group.
