Bill Murray succeeds the late Lorenzo Music as the voice of Garfield... who succeeded Murray as the voice of Peter Venkman in The Real Ghostbusters, the cartoon continuation of Ghostbusters.
Movie Goof (continuity error): When Jon is driving into his driveway after picking up Odie, you can see into the back seat of the car and see that Garfield isn't there.
In the film, Jon adopts Odie from his vet Liz's animal hospital. In the comic strip, Odie was originally the pet of Jon's friend Lyman.
Movie Goof (continuity error): In the vet's office, when Garfield is carried into the grooming room, there are close-ups of two cats in cages which do not appear in the long shots.
