Movie (1991)

The year is 1965 and Danny Embling, is an awkward, underdeveloped teen suffering from occasional bouts of stuttering, attends an all-male boarding school in New South Wales, Australia. it has been some time since Danny has had any romantic relationship with a girl. He slowly becomes interested in Thandiwe Adjewa, a Ugandan-Kenyan-British girl attending the all-girls school across the lake.

Thandie Newton's first film role, co-starring here with Nicole Kidman; she later co-starred with Kidman's ex, Tom Cruise, in Mission: Impossible II.
Intended to be the Australian-born Nicole Kidman's farewell to Australian cinema; by the time the film went into production, she had received international acclaim for her part in Dead Calm, and was being courted by US studios to appear in American productions. She wouldn't star in another Australian film for another decade, (2001's Moulin Rouge!). As a result of Kidman's fame, she received top billing and was prominently featured in print advertising for the film, despite only appearing in a few scenes. Conversely, star 'Noah Taylor' only appeared in print ads in silhouette.

Movie Goof (anachronisms): The film is set in 1965 and refers to Idi Amin's seizure of power in Uganda, however in reality this did not take place until 1971.
