Escape from L.A.

Movie (1996)

"Snake Is Back."

This time, a cataclysmic temblor hits Los Angeles, turning it into an island. The president views the quake as a sign from above, expels Los Angeles from the country and makes it a penal colony for those found guilty of moral crimes. When his daughter, part of a resistance movement, steals the control unit for a doomsday weapon, Snake again gets tapped to save the day.

Movie Trivia/Goofs

  • Movie Goof (continuity error): In the final fight scene between Snake and Cuervo, Cuervo's knife disappears occasionally from the ground.
  • Movie Goof (revealing mistake): When Snake is making his escape from Anaheim in the chopper, you can see the shadow of the wing-rotor blades under the body of the helicopter from a light source below it.
  • Escape From LA was caught in development hell for over ten years. A script for the film was first commissioned in 1985 but John Carpenter thought it "too light, too campy". It remained dormant until Carpenter and Kurt Russell got together with frequent collaborator Debra Hill. It was Russell's persistence that got the film made. Snake Plissken was his favourite character, a character he loved and wanted to play again.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): During the fight after the basketball game, Cuervo drops the black box twice.
