Martin Sheen once said of this film: "...it's the best role I've had since Apocalypse Now Redux."
For his character in this movie, actor Martin Sheen had to wear disguises. Sheen said that this was the first time he had worn disguises since "The Apple Man during the late 1960s.
This movie was completely shot in France. Its director, Jeannot Szwarc was actually born, bred and educated in Paris. He returned to his homeland to direct this film.
Actress Lisa Eichhorn was originally cast in this movie but was forced to leave the film. Eichorn was replaced with Brigitte Fossey.
