Movie Trivia/Goofs

  • Movie Goof (continuity error): When Jerry was back in Washington etc. it was in February and all the leaves were out on the trees. As well, in Oregon, all the foliage was green but it was Feb./Mar. according to the time-line with the dogs.
  • Movie Goof (factual errors): At the beginning of the movie (when it is January) it is pitch black out for all the night scenes. That close to the South Pole the sun would be above the horizon for at least twenty-three hours per day, and the sky would still be quite bright for the other hour. Also, just before the dogs are rescued, (July time frame) shadows are seen indicating that the sun is pretty much directly overhead. During this time of year, the sun is only above the horizon for about an hour per day, and would never be anywhere near that high in the sky.
  • The dogs spend almost all of their isolation in daylight when, in fact, they were enduring the southern winter, well south of the Antarctic Circle, and would thus have been in prolonged darkness.
  • Movie Goof (factual errors): The Otter aircraft used in the flying scenes has been converted to a turbine (jet prop) engine, as visually confirmed by the ultra-long nose and the 4 bladed paddle propeller. The movie engine sound effects are those of a standard reciprocating (gasoline) engine, which would have a very short round nose and a 3 blade prop.
