Donnie Brasco Goofs/Mistakes
- Movie Goof (audio/visual unsynchronized): When Santo Trafficante is on the boat talking to Sonny Black, and says: "You gotta show a little respect, ay?" His mouth does not match the words he is saying.
- Movie Goof (revealing mistake): When Joe/Donnie is shooting on the firing range, the second shot seen on screen ends without the pistol's action returning to firing position because the magazine is empty, but the shot cuts to the target, which is immediately struck by more shots.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): When Pistone first meets Lefty about diamonds at the bar, Lefty's arm goes from resting on the counter to being by his side between shots.
- Movie Goof (anachronisms): The scene at the airport hangar shows a Continental plane with a 1990s-era logo.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): In the swimming pool scene, Donnie wears a golden chain that appears and disappears between shots.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): Pistone's hair in between kissing his wife and going up the stairs.
- Movie Goof (factual errors): Maggie is shovelling snow and complaining that the temperature is freezing at the same time that Lefty and Donnie are reading John Wayne's obituary. Wayne died in June 1979.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): The Jif peanut butter moves counter clockwise in the cabinet when Donnie Brasco is fixing the items in his house early on in the movie.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): The amount the window of the car is rolled down while Donnie and Lefty are feeding the lion.
- Movie Goof (revealing mistake): When Brasco is attempting to call his wife and she had the number disconnected, we see he is dialing area code 212, which is a Manhattan area code. But according to the story Pistone lives in New Jersey and the area code for Clifton New Jersey at the time was 973.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): When Sonny Black gets sent for, he's smoking a cigarette, then throws it on the floor. AS he walks off in the next shot, the cigarette is no longer there.
- Movie Goof (anachronisms): Early on in the film, Neil Diamond's song 'Love on the Rocks' can be clearly heard playing in the background, in fact one of the card players in the scene sings along. 'Love on the Rocks' was not released until 1980.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): Maggie's cap changes when she enters the house after shoveling snow.
- Movie Goof (revealing mistake): When Donnie is in Florida and one of the characters is reading a story in the paper about the death of John Wayne it is winter in New York. John Wayne, however, died in June of 1979, not during the winter.
- Movie Goof (anachronisms): "Sawhorse" style traffic safety barricades in 1970's New York were pieced-together out of wood (in the manner of real sawhorses) and then painted yellow or orange - sometimes with stripes. In a street scene, the film shows a white cast-plastic model with applied reflective-tape orange stripes. These came into use in the mid 1990's.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): The shaving cream on the man who gives Donnie the thumbs up.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): Early in the movie, when Donnie is called to get out of the car, he turns off the engine, the windscreen wipers are almost vertical. In the next shot, they are half-way down.
- Movie Goof (errors in geography): When Brasco is attempting to call his wife and she had the number disconnected, we see he is dialing area code 212, which is a Manhattan area code. But according to the story Pistone lives in New Jersey and the area code for Clifton New Jersey at the time was 201, not 973 as listed above.
- Movie Goof (revealing mistake): When Lefty confronts Donnie about The Left Hand being a federal boat, the .38 revolver he brandishes points to the camera, and the blocked barrel is clearly visible.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): When the crew is on the boat in Florida it is daytime but the shot of the women dancing on the deck is obviously sunset and then it goes back to daytime when Donnie and Lefty are talking.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): When Donnie is first introduced to the wise guys standing out in the cold, a Lincoln town car pulls up. When it stops it's a Lincoln mark 6
- Movie Goof (anachronisms): When Pistone is feeding his girls eggs for breakfast, a Tuscan milk carton from the '90s is seen in the background.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): At the begining of the movie when the 'Big Boss' arrives he is pulling up in a black Lincoln. From the front first shot the Lincoln a much older model than the model that is in the next shot from the side as the car pulls up to the curb. The front turn signal lights can be seen as an older model Lincoln and a much new Lincoln.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): During a conversation between Lefty and 'Donnie', Lefty complains that the temperature is only 10 degrees. If this were so, his breath would be visible.
- Movie Goof (anachronisms): When about to board the boat "The Left Hand" a sign with gas prices can be seen that are obviously from the 1990s.
- Movie Goof (continuity error): When Brasco is first seen driving his DeVille Cadillac it is a 2 door coupe. In later scenes it is a 4 door Sedan and, again later, it is back to the 2 door Coupe.
- Movie Goof (anachronisms): Many '90s models cars and trinkets visible.
- Movie Goof (anachronisms): Set in the late 1970s, features the modern logo for Northwest Airlink. Also visible in the background is the modern National Debt Clock.
