Death at a Funeral

Death at a Funeral Trivia

  • One of the oft-mentioned photographs involving Edward and Frank features them dressed as Deena and Effie attending the premiere for Dreamgirls. Loretta Devine, who portrays Edward's widow Cynthia in this film, originated the role of Lorrell in the original 1981 Broadway production of "Dreamgirls" and made a cameo in its 2006 film adaptation. Danny Glover, who plays Uncle Russell, co-starred in the film version as Marty Madison.
  • In the original Death at a Funeral screenplay, the character that Peter Dinklage ended up playing was of average height and not written as an Achondroplasic dwarf; the character was changed for him after he auditioned and was cast. He then became the only actor to reprise his role in this remake.
  • This movie is a remake of a 2007 movie of the same name: Death at a Funeral. Although Hollywood has a history of making American versions of foreign films, the original versions are usually in a language other than English. This is not the case here, however, since the original film was a British production and filmed in English, with an American director (who was, as it happens, born in Britain), and several American actors (including Peter Dinklage, who reprises his role in the remake). This is a very unusual case of a remake being made very quickly of an English-language movie that had a theatrical release in the US (albeit not a very successful one).
  • The cast includes four actors who have previously directed films of their own: Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, Luke Wilson, and Danny Glover.
