  • American International Pictures lost the chance to make Cleopatra Jones and made this film instead, which ended up grossing more money in spite of a smaller budget.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): When King George is placing drugs into a fake film cartridge, his shoulder holster in on the right; in the next scene, when he's placing his stash away, the holster magically switches to his left.
  • The idea to hide various weapons in Coffy's afro came from Pam Grier.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): Vetroni's death: Coffy shoots Vetroni full in the chest with a shotgun, while he is standing in a swimming pool with his heart at the waterline. Vetroni is facing the camera and we see the blast, but there's no blood.
