Cloverfield

Movie (2008)

"Some Thing Has Found Us"

Cloverfield revolves around a monster attack in New York and follows the adventure of five people from the perspective of a hand-held video camera, while they try to save a friend and escape. The movie is exactly the length of a DV Tape and a sub-plot is established by showing bits and pieces of video previously recorded on the tape that is being recorded over.

Movie Trivia/Goofs

  • The film begins on April 27 and ends on May 23 at the exact same time: 6.42 AM.
  • Movie Goof (incorrectly regarded as a mistake): In the theatre, it is obvious that the footage is of very high audio-video quality, including multi-channel surround sound and ultra-high-resolution video at 24 frames per second, typical of movie productions, as opposed to 30-frame-per-second digitally compressed video with stereo sound that can be created with most consumer video. However, this is a necessary and deliberate change on the part of the crew, and not an error. Producing a movie with "authentic" quality based on the equipment Hud is carrying would have produced a very poor result when projected onto hundred-foot screens, and incompatibilities in frame rate between a 30-frame-per-second recording and the 24-frames-per-second provided by movie projectors would have created a movie which was unusable to most theaters.
  • One of the promotional websites, Jamieandteddy.com (password "jllovesth"), shows videologs (vlogs) made by the title couple about their relationship (which turns sour). Jamie Lascano is only seen at the party unceremoniously unconscious on the couch, and Teddy Hanssen is nowhere to be found (although on 1-18-08.com, he is now identified as "missing"). The actors who play either of the two are not confirmed. Though it has been speculated that Jamie is played by Blake Lively, this is incorrect.
  • The teaser trailer, as was planned, was shot before principal production began with digital cameras.
