  • Movie Goof (factual errors): When Nell and Capote are doing their research in Kansas, they are looking for a girl named Laura Kinney, who is portrayed as the one who found the Clutter family on that Sunday Morning. In the book, "In Cold Blood" Nancy Clutter's two friends, Nancy and Susan, are the ones that find the Clutter family dead.
  • Movie Goof (anachronisms): When Truman and Harper are renting a car upon arriving in Kansas, the '55 Chevrolet visible through the window has mag wheels on it. Aluminum mags weren't being manufactured in 1959.
  • The boy known as Danny Burke in the movie was actually Bobby Rupp in Capote's novel In Cold Blood, while the girl called Laura Kinney in the film is actually Susan Kidwell. The names were probably changed for legal reasons.
  • Movie Goof (factual errors): A scene opens with "April 14, 1965" on the screen; Capote is shown preparing to go to the prison. Smith and Hickock had been put to death by 1:19 AM on April 14.
