Brazil

Movie (1985)

"It's only a state of mind."

Brazil is a Terry Gilliam dystopic black comedy film that reflects the melancholy, dreamlike quality of a famous Brazilian song that’s been translated into English. The film parodies the mostly dysfunctional bureaucratic world we live in and takes us to a post-apocalyptic world in the future yet with our present day attitudes in mind.

  • Movie Goof (continuity error): When the secretary transcribes the words of the tortured, the second time the text is shown, there's actually less text than in the first shot: already typed out lines are suddenly vanished.
  • During the opening scene where you see the paperwork floor with all of the runners dropping and picking up receipts. There is actually only one row of typing stations they just pass forward and backward along the same set of stations.
  • Movie Goof (revealing mistake): When Sam enters his apartment after the Central Services had frozen it, his shoulders bump into some "ice" that is hanging from pipes. You can clearly see that the "ice" is made out of rubber.
  • In the Christmas shopping scene, a woman is carrying a banner outside the store with a cross that says "Consumers for Christ".
